keyboard & music learning
So, I got a keyboard for the holidays (thanks
wsmith
wsmith& just started finally playing with it today. It comes with a songbook & some built in songs so that it can helpfully play along (force a tempo, etc). The annoying part is that it plays this silly intro & a bit after the piece, so it's hard to time when to start playing. I know one can turn off the cheesy applause after, but am not sure about the intro.
It is fun to play with, even though, well, I can barely read music, and can't play at all. I did manage to learn much of the right hand for "twinkle twinkle little star" and "Ode to Joy", with reasonable rhythm and tempo.
I don't have anything that teaches chords or fingering excercises or...
So, now I'm wondering if I ought to try and find a piano teacher for lessons once every week or two. Theoretically, I just want to be good enough to play children's sonds and such & sing - for particularly when Will gets older. Knowing me, of course, the idea of being able to get better than that is tempting.
I'm not sure how much to practice with the keyboard & risk getting bad habits, but see how serious I am, and how much I should just go find a teacher. It's fun though, even if a bit frustrating.
