hunting the perfect bed
The time has come to get a slightly wider bed (amazing how babies encourage that). So we want to get a California King bed - which is fine, but I am failing to find a bed that contains all the desirable features. To whit:
* I like underbed storage drawers - but the ones that exist have no styling or options
* For the headboard, I want a few shelves in the center (& maybe high up on the sides) of the headboard. It'd be good to have a hole that a standard trashcan could fit into on the bottom shelf - and a shelf tall enough to pull it out again. On the sides, I'd like a nice cushioned leather surface to lean against (probably like a sleigh bed for curves, but not positive). Basically, I don't want to need nightstands as well - a common alarm clock, tissue box, & lamp are nice. Oh, though lights under the shelves above the cushioned backrest would be great.
* I did see one custom-made bed that had swivel tables at the ends; if it were possible to have one that folded vertically & could come down & flip out to be in front of where one would sleep, that'd be really cool for holding a laptop or food or such.
* I'd like it to not be ugly - tolerably plain is ok, but with a bit of interest would be nice.
* Real wood (not pine); not anything fancy, stained light
* boxspring or possibly platform bed
A cheery wish list I know, but can anyone recommend a woodworker (in California, or willing to ship there)? Or give me an idea of how much it would cost? Or tell me I'm insane?
